From bringing us the cute side of the otherwise hardcore K-Hiphop industry with a love song for animals to talking the “real talk” that HipHop is known for, this week is a week full of releases, so different from one another that each track seems like a new musical journey within the genre. This week’s K-R&B releases, however, carry a similar strain of lo-fi and chill sonics that create a dreamy atmosphere around them. Here’s our compact guide to surf through these new songs and explore their musical spectrums.

1. Jay Park – ‘SUMMERIDE’

The most-loved, iconic duo of Producer Cha Cha Malone and Jay Park is back again with a refreshing zing of summery delight – the track being titled ‘SUMMERIDE’. Promising his lover a worry-free summertime, Jay Park brings out both his ear-pleasing honeyed vocals and polished, structured rap verses, combining it with the intricately layered silky-smooth DnB instrumentation worked on by Cha Cha Malone. ‘SUMMERIDE’ hence is the perfect inviting track to welcome the upcoming summer season of May and June.

2. Dvwn – ‘Yeonnam-dong (Feat. lIlBOI)’

Off of his new EP Album, ‘It’s Not Your Fault’, R&B singer Dvwn’s track ‘Yeonnam-dong’ showcases his silky, smooth vocals (so unique that just one line and you already know it’s Dvwn who is singing) flawlessly, paired with lIlBOI’s laid-back yet power-driven bars. Giving off a chill reminiscing vibe, the track takes the hopeless romantic lane as we see Dvwn roaming from one place to the next, singing in a nostalgic euphonic tone, “I’m on Yeonnam-dong streets/Because I’ve walked with you/ These streets have become sad.”

3. Owen – ‘HIP-HOP Ⅱ (Prod. DJ Wegun)’

Rapping on a classic freestyle type of beat (very DJ Wegun-esque), MKIT RAIN rapper, Owen Ovadoz converses intimately with a female persona he labels as “Hiphop”. Reminiscing about his long, long journey from rapping overseas to making it in his motherland, South Korea, Owen shows his gratitude for the hiphop life that he bet his life on. The simplistic music video that uses an eccentric triadic palette, focuses all the attention on Owen’s rap and his “real talk” lyricism, giving it a larger-than-life persona and hence, making it twice as impactful.

4. Paloalto, pH-1 – ‘Mungpal’

Another track this week based on loveable pets comes from powerhouse Paloalto, and H1GHR MUSIC’s trendy trapper, pH-1. Titled ‘Mungpal’ the pleasant track, features the artists starring alongside their own pets in a delectable playful music video that would have dog-lovers smiling goofily the whole time. With pH-1 declaring softly, “I never love like this before, you are my little angel” after a wholesome verse by Paloalto (known was his clear diction), the rap musicality meeting the cute love serenading to their pets, adds a fresh, satisfying appeal to the track.

6. Kebee – ‘Suitcase’

Kicking off a playful trendy guitar strumming and laid-back refrain which sets the stage for rapper Kebee’s unclouded loosely-structured rap verse, track ‘Suitcase’ seems to be a show-stealer right from the get-go. Even with a chill, mid-tempo rapping style, Kebee is also able to wow the listeners as he molds perfectly into the minimalist beat – showcasing his amazing cadence. This track hence wittily utilizes the simple cinematic setting and consistent yet quirky beat production to enhance the appeal of the rapper’s verses and his elite artistry.

7. Nieah – ‘Lemonade’

Coming back with a slow, lo-fi guitar-infused instrumentation, R&B singer and songwriter, Nieah (Yeom Hyein), wows the listeners with her late-night reminiscent romantic track. The music video features Nieah with former Seven O’Clock member, ‘Vaan/Vxxn’ (now stage named ‘Login’) playing the role of her lover. Even though she had debuted early on, in 2013, and is already carving her name in the R&B/Soul genre, this latest release titled ‘Lemonade’ testifies the continuation of her never-ending growth since then. Avid listeners of the lo-fi style would definitely label this as “their jam”!
