We’re back with another interview with none other than VAV! This time we caught up with the septet about their comeback album, their music-making process and how they are coping with the pandemic crisis, and more!
Read on the interview to know what the members have to say. They also have a special message for Indian VAMPZ!
Last year, VAV visited India and gave us a rocking two city concert. Now they are back with a comeback album after 11 long months! The latest mini-album is titled “Made For Two” It was released on Sept. 15, 2020.
Watch their latest MV “Made For Two” here:
KHIGH: Hello VAV! I hope you are well and I am sure you must be super excited as this is your comeback after 11 months! So, how are you feeling about it? How is this release different from the previous ones?
St.Van: Our new album title song “MADE FOR TWO” is a mid-tempo dance song, more sentimental as compared to our previous songs. So, you can expect a different style of VAV for this new album. It’s also a very special album because all the tracklists are composed by our members.
KHIGH: The preview photos and teasers created so much hype among the fans! Tell us more about the concept.
Ace: Take the previous album “POISON” as a comparison, we totally changed from a dark concept to a more natural and sentimental style. As you can see from our concept photos, the color tones are brighter but with an Autumn atmosphere, and all of us were styled in a fresher and natural look.
KHIGH: What is your process when you work on a new album? What is your inspiration for music and lyrics?
Ayno: While composing a song, I normally work from the track and melody first. Take the song “Moto” as examples, it took me 5months to finalize the song, and insert it as one of the tracks of our new album. I can’t really think of any specific inspiration for music/lyrics, but I can say our members inspire and motivate me a lot.
KHIGH: What is the uniqueness of this album? September is packed with comebacks, what do you think will set your album apart?
Lou: Talking about the uniqueness of VAV, I think it’s about the spirit of the challenge. We always challenge ourselves to try a different genre of music for each album, and I think it does make our group special. Hopefully, you will enjoy our new song for this upcoming autumn.
KHIGH: Not to give any spoilers about the album (go listen to it now!), we can call it a multilingual album right?
Jacob: It can be considered a multilingual album since we have Korean and English songs. There are two full English songs in the album, hopefully, our fans will like it.
(Jacob is referring to ‘Into You’ and ‘You Taught Me Love’ from the album!)
KHIGH: You were on a tour in India in 2019, tell us about your experience here! Would you like to hold a comeback showcase here someday?
Ziu: Looking back to our tour in India back in the year 2019, I can’t forget the moment when we first arrived at the airport. There’re so many fans who came to the airport and welcomed us. Many of them even sang along with us in Korean, and that really amazed me. If there’s a chance in the future, I definitely hope to visit India again or even want to hold a showcase or concert there someday!
KHIGH: Because of the COVID-19, many things have come to a halt. In spite of that, how have you spent your time? What are your plans for the remainder of 2020?
Lou: We took the chance to focus on practice, so most of my time was spent in the dorm and practice room. Hopefully, things will get better so that we will be able to go out and enjoy the fresh air without masks.
Ziu: It’s sad, not to be able to meet with VAMPZ directly due to COVID-19, but at the time same I am feeling glad that at least we can still meet up online. Hopefully, COVID-19 will be gone soon and I can visit India again!
KHIGH: You have Latin-themed songs such as Senorita and Give Me More. Which other genres of music would you like to try next?
St.Van: Personally, I want to try hip-hop music or even a band!
Ace: VAV mostly release dance song, but our members have a beautiful voice so I think ballad music is suitable for us too. That’s why I wrote the song 놓지마(Hold Tight) for this new album. I think we can keep trying this genre in the future.
Ayno: I would like to try techno music, but change it to a more idol style; kind of mystery and futuristic genre of music.
KHIGH: As Baron has enlisted for his military duties Indian fans have sent their good wishes for him through us. Please share a message for Indian VAMPZ!
St.Van: Hi India VAMPZ! I missed the time during our India Tour! So many of you came to see us, even we can’t meet now due to COVID-19, but I believe one day we can see each other again! I want to visit India! VAMPZ, please take care and stay healthy until the day we see again! Lastly, thanks for supporting and loving our new mini-album “MADE FOR TWO”.
I love you all!
Before the comeback VAV made new content for VAMPZ, so that VAMPZ don’t feel alone. They uploaded funny and variety show like videos on their YouTube Channel. In the following video, we can see Jacob making a parody of Mukbangs. VAV knows how to make their audience laugh!
VAV gained popularity in the international music scene with their song ‘Senorita’. The song seamlessly blends the touch of Latin music and Korean lyrics. The music video also uses Latin-American backgrounds to add to the Latin music feel in the song! The song is a remake of the German hit song ‘Senorita’ by Kay One ft. Pietro Lombardi. The members Ayno and Lou participated in writing the rap part. It won’t be wrong to say that is a collaboration between Latin-POP and K-POP.
