With the Hallyu Wave spreading like a blanket across all regions of our country India, the interest in the culture and language of South Korea has also greatly increased in all these parts.


The Korean language which is spoken by more than 75 million people, out of which 48 million stays in South Korea and 24 million in North Korea, more than 2 million in China and approximately 1 million in America and 500,000 in Japan, has slowly but surely gained scholars yearning to learn it in India too.


In this guide we will be covering all the language centres in Delhi-NCR region and giving details regarding the course structure, time period, charges, locations, etc. all combined into one list for your convenience.


1.             University of Delhi




There are 2 options to choose from when it comes to studying the Korean Language in DU, a part-time program (Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) or a full-time PG course (Diploma, Advanced Diploma and MA/Ph.D.) in East Asian Studies. Only four colleges affiliated to DU offer part-time Korean language courses in Delhi.

  2. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Mall Road, Delhi – Certificate.
  3. Ramjas College, University Enclave, New Delhi – Certificate
  4. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Pitampura – Certificate.


10+2 is a prerequisite for Certificate course whereas Diploma and Advanced diploma requires candidates to have passed the Certificate and Diploma exam respectively. Admission is given based on merit.



Department of East Asian Studies


The Department of East Asian studies at Arts faculty offers One Year Full-time PG Intensive Diploma (KF-1) and One Year Full-time PG Intensive Advanced Diploma (KF-2) through the SLAT entrance test.


The eligibility criteria are a bachelor’s degree for KF-1 and KF-2. Additionally, for KF-2, at least 75% marks in KF-1 or Diploma in Korean from any University is mandatory.


The students can also choose to pursue Korean Language if they are interested in degree-level MA, M.Phil and Ph.D. course in East Asian studies. The admission procedure is based on an entrance test.

2.     Korean Culture Centre of India, New Delhi




Located at Lajpat Nagar – 4 in South Delhi, KCCI or The King Sejong Institute is the first Korean Culture Centre to be opened in South Asia.


KCCI runs 3 courses in a year (Jan-April), (May-Aug), and (Sept-Dec) where the courses are divided into 3 parts- Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels designed as per (TOPIK) Test of Proficiency in Korean exam.


These are further divided into 8 levels- B1 & B2 (Beginners), I1 & I2 (Intermediate), and A1, A2, A3, & A4 (Advanced).


They also take an interview before enrolling at the beginners’ level.

3.     Korean Language Courses in JNU




The Centre for Korean Studies at JNU is one of the biggest academic centers of Korean Language, Literature and Culture Studies in the Indian Subcontinent. It offers B.A., M.A., M.Phil

and Ph.D. programs in Korean Language, Literature and Culture Studies.


In the MA program, students master the advanced skills in Korean with particular emphasis on appreciation of literary texts of various genres, translation & interpretation and study of the social and cultural heritage of Korea.

3.     Arirang Korean Academy – Dwarka, Delhi




Established in 2008, this is another Korean institute located in Dwarka, Delhi which also offers Basic, Intermediate and Advanced level courses in the Korean language.


Their classes cover the Korean lifestyle, culture, food habits, and social customs as well.

4.     Learn Korean at Jamia Millia Islamia




The Faculty of Humanity offers a One-year Certificate and One-year Diploma course in the Korean Language which not only helps its students to be proficient in the language but also helps them find job opportunities at Korean companies.


The Embassy of the Republic of Korean supports this program and the Korea Foundation has also appointed a visiting professor to teach these courses to the students.


Apart from the certificate course, Korean is also available for students pursuing professional courses in Management and Engineering.

6.     Langma School of Languages





They are the only institute in Delhi-NCR offering courses in more than 50 foreign languages. After the completion of each level, a written exam will be taken. They are 3 levels in total with each level being 100 hours long. After the completion of each level, a written exam is taken to determine your competency and placements are available only after the successful completion of the C2 Level in the Advanced level category.
